Trees for Dendrologists
The course is designed for students wanting to further their interest in and knowledge of trees. The lecturers include John Grimshaw, head of the Yorkshire Arboretum, Ben Jones head of the Harcourt Arboretum, Daniel Luscombe and David Jewell, Head of Collections at the Sir Harold Hillier Arboretum and Gardens.
There will be lecturing days in central London, at the Harcourt Arboretum and the Herbarium at Oxford, at Bedgebury Pinetum in Kent and at the Sir Harold Hillier Arboretum and Gardens, Romsey.
The Syllabus
The syllabus covers the following subjects over a total of ten days:

a complete approach to tree classification, taxonomy and systematics

naming new species

breeding systems, including apomixis, pollination and seed dispersal mechanisms

tree families, recent introductions

tree structure and morphological models of tree shape and form

invasive species and contemporary regulation; Nagoya Protocol
Course Dates
Trees for Dendrologists will not be running 2024-2025.
Certificate
This is not a certificate course and no homework will be set.
Course Fees
The fees for the course are £1595 and are payable in full before the beginning of the autumn term. A place is confirmed on the course by sending a non/refundable deposit of £100 together with the completed application form.
